APAT WA hosted a three day workshop in February titled 'Silhouettes' with guest artist Anne Blake. The venue was McDougal House, Como.
Students created a silhouette design using sample shapes provided by Anne or supplied their own choice of subject. In compiling the design consideration was given to how techniques could be used to enhance the finished silhouette. The use of liquid bright gold, various texture products and/or lustre finishes were all considered.
Students, including several who travelled up from Busselton in the South-West, spent three industrious days of painting.
By the end of the first day each had created their design, drafted it to their porcelain and had produced a penned outline. On day two, after masking, the main silhouette was dry dusted with black and some work completed on the decorative background.
The final day comprised of reviewing and adjusting the design and applying some of the decorative techniques and relief work.
It was a very friendly class with good humour prevailing. I hope the workshop will give inspiration to these talented ladies.
