On Friday evening 3rd May 2024, members and friends of PAWA (formerly the West Australian Guild of China painters) met at the Pines Community Centre to launch the exhibition celebrating 60 years since their foundation. Patron Philippa Nikulinsky opened the proceedings and there was an address from President Heather Tailor. A delicious light supper and refreshments was then served as those present viewed the exhibition.
The exhibition continued over the weekend - 4th and 5th May, 2024. The Theme for 2024 was ‘Imaginality' with members invited to paint a collection of up to seven pieces to interpret the theme. Work displayed was from both Metro and Country members with a wide variety of both modern and traditional porcelain designs on display.
Several hundred pieces of hand painted porcelain and glass was on display. In addition to the theme section there was a display from PAWA’s Collectables – the Associations own porcelain art collection. It was fascinating to see this display as the pieces have not been on display for some years.
Congratulations to President Heather Tailor and her team for a beautifully presented and very enjoyable event.
PAWA - BEST EXHIBIT AWARD
The PAWA award for the best collection in the Exhibition section went to the collection 'Perceptions' by Christine Munro. Photo shown below.
The glorious autumn weather contributed to many people taking the opportunity to visit the exhibition and see the beautiful display of hand-painted porcelain. The general consensus of visitors was delight at the variety and high level of work on display.
'Collectables' Display
Visitors to the exhibition were treated to a display from PAWA'S 'Collectables' – the Association's own porcelain collection. The display featured pieces painted by WA artists. It was a fascinating display with some outstanding exhibits.
