The Australasian Porcelain Art Teachers Association's national exhibition and convention, titled 'Fired Up' and hosted by APAT NSW, was held from 23rd to 26th October 2024 at the Rydges Cronulla Beachside Hotel in Cronulla, NSW.
Following drinks and canapés the exhibition was officially opened on Wednesday evening. The porcelain exhibits were beautifully displayed and created quite a 'wow' factor.
There was a wide variety of subject matter with all States represented as well as exhibits from several overseas countries. There was en excellent display from the New Zealand contingent!
Shown on this page are several examples of porcelain pieces which I particularly enjoyed.
I was invited to present a mini half-day workshop during the Convention.
Participants were invited to create a design working with numerous white, black and grey paints, finishes and textures available to the porcelain artist. Effects that can be achieved using white relief on black and a true black relief on white were demonstrated. Also the use of Debbie Good's 'All Colour Relief' to achieve a truly black relief was shown.
Many techniques and products were used to create some interesting designs which were predominately black and white, with grey and gold highlights.
Shown - Black and White spider orchid platter with liquid bright gold highlights.
The Exhibition closed with a celebration dinner on Saturday night and the passing of the 'banner' to West Australian president Carolyn Pollitt.
Members and friends in attendance were treated to a delicious dinner accompanied by entertainment from Scott Radburn, a former member of the Kinsmen. There was also a surprise appearance from an Elvis Presley impersonator.
Clotilde Ruegg from Switzerland and
Sandra Bernaitis from Queensland
